Death of the insured horse

Payment up to the sum insured will be made if the horse dies or is humanely destroyed due to accident, injury, illness, or disease during the insurance period or within 90 days after, if notified on time.

Theft of the insured horse

Covers theft of the insured horse or death/humane destruction directly resulting from theft.

Life saving surgical fees extension*

Covers emergency life-saving surgery and aftercare (up to 15 days) and veterinary treatment for snake bites.

Stallion permanent total disability extension*

Covers stallion becoming impotent, infertile, or incapable of serving mares due to accident, injury, illness or disease.

Saddlery and tack Extension*

Covers loss or damage to saddlery and tack up to sum insured.

Disposal cost extension*

Covers expenses for disposal of horse’s body after death from covered loss.

Veterinary fee cover extension*

Covers veterinary fees for injury, illness or disease during insurance period up to sum insured (deductible of AUD 500 per claim applies).

Death of the insured horse

Exclusions include death due to quarantine disease outbreaks, intentional slaughter (except agreed cases), surgical operations not emergency life-saving, medication not prescribed by vet, malicious acts, neglect, or use outside stated purpose.

Theft of the insured horse

Excludes losses from unexplained disappearance or fraud-induced voluntary parting.

Life saving surgical fees extension

Excludes elective surgery, pre-existing conditions, non-vet performed surgery, and death benefits.

Saddlery and tack extension

Excludes clothing, wear and tear, mysterious disappearance, malicious damage by insured, and a deductible applies.

Veterinary fee cover

Excludes routine treatments, pre-existing conditions, elective surgery, complementary treatments (unless authorised), and certain diagnostic costs.

General exclusions

  • No cover for death from Hendra Virus unless vaccination is current and verified.
  • No cover for tetanus-related death unless current tetanus certificate provided.

Equine mortality insurance is an additional policy and is not included under the Equestrian national insurance program arranged by Marsh. 

If you are an Equestrian Australia member, coach, club or official who would like to arrange equine mortality insurance, contact one of our Marsh brokers today.

No, the policy will not respond to any illness, sickness or disease or physical condition which was present or diagnosed before the policy was incepted.

Yes, if the Equestrian horse value is over $5,000 or All foals require a certificate from 24 hours to 29 days.

Yes. This policy is appropriate for eventing, dressage and showjumping horses.  Other Equestrian disciplines may be covered, please contact us to learn more.

No. This policy cannot accommodate bloodstock thoroughbreds.

The horse mortality insurance product does not include a Public Liability component.  Equestrian Australia members have Liability Insurance protections within their membership.

Rodeo saddle or Bareback Bronc riding, “pick-up” horses at rodeos, hazing horses in steer wrestling & steer undecorating events.

This policy will not provide or respond to any loss of use earnings following the death of the horse.
